Sensual Animals with Spiritual Flesh is a collective movement research series inviting participants into deep sensual and ecological co-sensing, radical intimacy, and elemental embodiment. Sessions will take place in both - natural and post-natural environments, reflecting on the encounters of the outer and more-than-human but also inner landscapes, finding collectively intimate gestures of interbeing.
The methodology draws from Butoh, eco-somatics and radical Intimacy: Butoh invites the animal within, the grotesque and sacred, through slowness and raw presence.—a dance that resists spectacle and emerges from within, the unseen, the transcendental and spiritual. Eco-somatics as a way of remembering that the body is not separate from the land but entangled within it. Talking with the world -stepping into conversation with forces, matter, space, time and meaning.
Through guided movement improvisation, elemental sensing, sound and word in natural and post-natural spaces, we will open to movement that begins in impulse and imagination- the unknown. We explore choreography and gestures not as a form but as presence. Based on the recent body of work like “Talking with stones” we will explore ways of breaking the normative and unlearning by exploring shapeshifting time, ironoxid in our blood and the vibrancy between matter and flesh.
